Water Pollution ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Pollution has always been an important issue in the world as it is highly detrimental to humans’ health and the earth as well. As it is a critical issue that we have to be keen on, it is crucial for people to be aware of the causes and effects of pollution, let alone the ways to reduce pollution. We usually encounter news about air pollution on TV or social media, but it is relatively hard to see news related to water pollution. Water pollution is also a critical topic as it is directly associated with human activities and the main causes derive from products/substances that humans use.

The main causes usually come from harmful substances like microorganisms, parasites, phosphates, nitrates, fertilizers, etc. Furthermore, sewage and wastewater can easily contaminate rivers and streams as the toxic substances get absorbed and dissolved into the water. This will naturally deteriorate the quality of water, which leads to disruptions of aquatic ecosystems and devastating effects on humans. As the toxic substances get dissolved into water, the harmful organisms are released and could possibly kill marine species. The leakage of wastewater, also known as sewage, can lead to eutrophic dead zones in which marine species are likely to die due to the lack of oxygen.

Water pollution is detrimental to humans’ health and the environment as water is ubiquitous and there are lots of demands for water products. According to statistics, it is known that contaminated water sickens about 1 billion people each year and that diseases like cholera and typhoid could be derived from such water conditions. Moreover, swimming could also be a hazardous activity as people could show symptoms of skin rashes, respiratory infections, and hepatitis after getting out of the swimming pool or ocean. Not only this, but it also has a precarious effect on the environment as the introduction of toxic substances could trigger algae growth, leading to reductions in oxygen levels in the water.
