Food Production and its following effects 🧑‍🌾

<Food Production and its following effects>

Many people are not aware that food production could be an actual threat to the environment. Though it might not seem like a significant issue like pollution or global warming, food production is linked with many ecosystems and thus could lead to a great number of devastating consequences in the earth. The main reason why food production can be harmful is due to the detrimental chemicals that are used in the agriculture process. In order to produce mass amounts of food, artificial herbicides and fertilizers are applied so that they can prevent “unwanted growth” from plants and to maximize the crops’ sheiks. Furthermore, if the soil is unfertile, it will need more demands of such fertilizers to promote fast growth of the plants. Such application of chemicals on crops is very harmful as the organisms are exposed to toxic chemicals in high concentrations and so makes it hard for our bodies to process large amounts of such chemicals. Not only this, but artificial fertilizers are also very energy intensive to produce so they contribute to major climate changes and affect the long term sustainability of food production. In addition to these effects, food productions could potentially lead to depletion of sufficient water resources. Water resources are required for livestock animals and supplying these animals with large amounts of water could waste our water reserves at a rapid rate. One important factor that most people overlook is the issue of “food transportation.” When large amounts of crops are transported from place to place, it wastes a great amount of fossil fuels and thus, shows the reason why mass food production systems are inappropriate for a method to be used for a prolonged period of time.
