Hydro Energy 💧

Have you heard about hydro energy before? It is also called hydroelectric power or hydroelectricity because people have developed how to produce available energy with power of water. Hydro energy is one of the commonly used renewable energy sources. China’s dams are very great examples of hydro energy because there is a big development and usage. There are some hydroelectric power plants on the river which help water to keep flowing with a control of the specific amount. The energy is produced with those power plants which contain reservoirs of water and manage the maximum amount of water which can flow out of the reservoirs. Then, water starts to flow downward and it becomes to possess kinetic energy through flowing. Because of that, the water can be a source of electricity with kinetic energy.

For the plants of hydro energy, there are a few kinds of hydroelectric power plants.  The first one is an impoundment facility. It is a form of dam which mostly controls the water flow in the reservoirs. The dams are opened when people need to produce more electricity and closed when they want to keep it. Due to the gravity, power that the Earth attracts the objects because of their weights, there can be energy (kinetic energy).

The second one is a diversion facility. It is a form of a series of canals which connects flowing rivers with the generator-powering turbines. It does not use any kind of structures like dams, but uses only canals which channel water toward turbines.

The last one is a pumped-storage facility, which collects the energy from solar, wind and so on. The pumps are located in the lower level of the reservoirs and help to make water go up to the upper level of the reservoirs. The more demand for electricity, the higher level of the water falling with much stronger power of pumps to make electricity.
